JB Kitesurfing Cornwall runs a full Kitesurfing lessons program to teach you all the skills you will need to reach your goal of standing up on a Kite board and Kitesurfing a short distance out and back to the beach. Our kitesurfing lessons are split into three independant modules to allow those that may have previous skills can join us at any stage.
Each kitesurfing lesson last for 4 hours and follows a progressive pattern of skills based on the BKSA structure and is taught by one of our professional IKO / BKSA instructors. With consistent wind and a bit more coaching (intermediate lessons) you could be kitesurfing out and back to the same spot on the beach, maybe even attempting first jumps!
Learning to Kite surf is exciting; adrenalin fuelled and importantly when training with a JB Kitesurfing professional instructor you are in a controlled environment keeping you safe at all times whilst you revel in what is such a sensation.

Which Kitesurfing lesson to choose?
The mother of all questions, so what level am I and which lesson should i start with?
Below is a guide to realistic Kitesurfing skill levels so you can keep track on your next move and also determine what Kitesurfing lesson you should join to carry on learning to kitesurf the right way with us here at JB Kitesurfing.
Level 1- Basic Skills
As a beginner you may well have flown power kites for a while and can demonstrate the following technical knowledge and practical skills as below?
Technical
• Can risk assess your flying zone
• Explain what wind effect is
• Know the use of safety systems
Practical
• Set up a foil kite
• Launch and land a foil kite with an assistant
• Fly the kite in control using bthe wind window
• Twist and untwist the lines while flying the kite
• Walk and change directions while flying the kite

Level 2 – You can fly 4 line kites
Great news as with the basic foil skills you can join our Day 2 - 4 line skills where we teach you how to fly supported leading edge ( SLE) kites that we use for kitesurfing.
Our Lesson 2 – 4 line skills teaches you a huge amount both technical and practical as follows;
• Control the kite hooked into the harness
• Understand the de-power system and can use the safety systems
• Advanced flying skills with the de-power kite
• Show full control of de-power systems in flight
• Pull quick release and activate leash
• Recover the bar and kite
•Enter and exit the water independently and safely while controlling the kite
•Water re-launch the kite
•First body drag downwind
•Maintain correct kite position in the wind window
•Change direction to the left and right while body dragging
•Recover the kite and bar in the water

Yes = Join Lesson 3 – Water start
- You have learnt to fly SLE kites but more than 4 – 6 months ago?
Yes = Join – Lesson 2 – 4 Line kite skills
- You have been taught by a mate?

Level 3- Progressive
At this stage you are in between beginner and intermediate levels so we like to call this the Progressive.
Do you have these skills?
Level 3J
•Control the riding speed by edging
•Consistent riding in both directions
Level 3K
•Consistent riding in all directions including upwind
•Ride amongst other riders and water users and respect right of way rules
Level 3L
•Change of direction without stopping
•Self- rescue and full pack-down in the water

Kitesurfing Lesson: Taster day
The Core Skills lesson is an eye opener for most people as many completely under-estimate the power that a small foil kite can generate. It is also the first part of our Beginner Kitesurfing Course.
This 2.5 hour land based lesson will teach you how to set up, launch and fly a foil kite using all power ranges safely and in total control and is also gives you the skills you will need to carry on learning to Pilot a Kite buggy or head to the water and learn to Kite surf.
AIM: By the end of the lesson you will be able to set up a foil kite ready for launch and be able to fly your kite in control and with power.
* Minimum of 2 persons required
Kitesurfing Lesson: Kite starter
The Kite starter is a 5 hour * intensive Kitesurfing lesson that will teach you how to fly these more powerful kites safely and to use and implement safety systems, water re launch, pack down your kite and create traction by “body dragging”. These skills are harder than you might think but they are huge fun to learn.
AIM: By the end of the day we aim to get you to a level where you can pass your BKSA level 1 test and have the skills in order to join Step 2 and the advanced techniques of water balance and water start.

Kitesurfing Lesson: Board starter
Today’s 5 hour * Kitesurfing lesson is all about teaching you the more advanced skills to keep you balanced in the water, and how to get your feet into the board straps so that you can water start.
If you are an excellent student you may well stand up and Kitesurf a short distance, most stand up and fly over the front either way all are grinning to Cheshire cat standards!
AIM – By the end of the lesson we aim to perfect your flying skills, the techniques of water start and have passed on invaluable condition knowledge to keep you safe so that you ultimately can practise on your own.
